When most people think of a portrait session, they imagine packing up, heading to a studio or outdoor location, and hoping their pet feels comfortable in a new environment. But what if the very best place to capture their true personality is the place they already know and love—home?

For cats especially, home is more than just four walls. It’s safety, familiarity, and comfort. It’s where their routines live, where they perch in their favorite spots, and where their personalities shine brightest. Taking a cat out of their environment can often mean stress, anxiety, or hiding. But when we bring the portrait experience to them, they get to stay relaxed, confident, and completely themselves.

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing Roman and Cheddar in their home with their humans.

Roman: The Confident Host

Roman, a stunning Maine Coon, welcomed me right away as if he’d been waiting for his moment. From the start, he showed off his playful side—rolling with his favorite toy, and hunting it with full determination. Later, he sprawled across the back of the couch, eyes locked on my camera, effortlessly giving me the kind of soulful portrait that tells you everything about who he is.

Cheddar: The Gentle Observer

Cheddar, a handsome orange tabby on the other hand, was more reserved. Like many cats, he wasn’t sure about a guest at first. But with a little encouragement, he slowly ventured out of hiding, found a sunny spot to stretch out, and eventually started playing too. In his own time, Cheddar opened up, and the portraits we captured reflect his gentle, thoughtful spirit.

Why Choose an In-Home Experience?

If you’ve ever wondered whether an in-home portrait session is right for you and your pet, consider this:

  • Cats thrive in familiar environments. They can relax, play, and show off their true personalities without stress.
  • Every home tells a story. From favorite windows to cozy couches, the spaces your cat loves become part of your portraits, grounding the memories in the life you’re living now.
  • The experience is as meaningful as the images. You’re not just creating portraits—you’re spending intentional time together, celebrating your bond.

For pets like Roman and Cheddar, home truly is where the heart—and the best portraits—are.
