If you've been dreaming of senior portraits surrounded by Arkansas's beautiful forests, fields, or scenic overlooks, there's an important update you'll want to know before your session. Many of Arkansas's most beautiful outdoor locations are managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). Beginning this year, a new permit requirement affects anyone visiting these properties, including those coming for a senior portrait session.
Do I Need a Permit for My Arkansas Senior Portrait Session?
If your senior portrait session takes place on an AGFC Wildlife Management Area (WMA), everyone age 16 or older entering the property must have one of the following:
- A valid Arkansas hunting license
- A valid Arkansas fishing license
- An AGFC WMA/Lake Conservation Permit
This requirement applies not only to the photographer, but also to the senior, parents, and any other family members who attend the session and enter the property. I confirmed this directly with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission on July 8th, 2026, so I could provide my clients with accurate information before booking.
How to Get the AGFC Conservation Permit
Getting the AGFC WMA/Lake Conservation permit is quick and easy.
Before your session:
- Create an account through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
- Purchase the WMA/Lake Conservation permit if you don't already have a hunting or fishing license.
- Save the permit on your phone or print a copy to bring with you.
The current Arkansas resident fee is $10.50 per person. The permit is valid only through June 30, 2027, regardless of when it is purchased. After that date, a new permit will be required for the next license year.
Will My Senior Portrait Session Require a Permit?
Not necessarily. Many of my favorite senior portrait locations are not on AGFC property, so no permit is required. However, if we choose a Wildlife Management Area because it offers the perfect scenery for your session, I'll let you know during the planning process and provide everything you need before session day. You'll never have to wonder whether a permit is required. I'll make sure you know well in advance.
Why I Wanted to Share This
Part of my job is helping you enjoy your senior portrait experience without unexpected surprises. When rules change, I believe it's important to pass that information along so you can focus on celebrating this exciting season of life.
Whether we're photographing in a wild Arkansas landscape or another beautiful location, my goal is always the same: create portraits that feel authentic, timeless, and worthy of becoming artwork for your home.
